 Fatoumata Kone, known as "Babani" Kone, born in 1968 in Segou, Mali, is a Malian composer and singer.
She apprenticed to her grandmother Awa Koné, a very famous griot who invited her to wedding and baptism ceremonies. Discovered by leaders of Youth to participate at cultural events (inter-neighborhood, inter-school and pioneering movement), Babani Koné participated to the Biennale Artistic and Cultural, then she joined "Les Etoiles du Mali" where she recorded two albums : Sanou Djala and Barika ranked among the best sellers in the country. Her musical style (Jeli Mandéka) is a modernization of Mandinka and Bamana music.
In 1982, she began an international career, participated in the Festival Etoiles d 'Africa in Abidjan. In 1989, she has been invited with Toumani DiabateVirtuoso korafolá, Toumani Diabate has much contributed to make known the kora all around the world... Read more. at the Dranouter-Gang Festival in Belgium. In 1999, she made a remarkable appearance at the Africolor Festival in St Denis, France. In 2004, she won the World Culture Open Festival in Seoul in South Korea and in 2006, she participated in the festival: The Dangerous Women - The Asian Music Circuit in Great Britain. In 2007, she has been invited with Popa, on the "Fanka" of the album Mon Afrique by Mokobé.
