Indeed, legend of the Manding Epic tradition tells that one had to pull 4 reins (« nayni ») to slow down Bucephale,
preferred horse of the Macedonian conqueror.
It is also said that « Julu Kara Nayni » was the favourite song of Soundjata. Just as Caius Julius Cesar admired
Alexander the Great, Soundjata admired that ruler who conquered Greece, Mesopotamia, Egypt and the Persian Empire.
Note that the song is not to be confused with the classic
ngoni piece « Juru nani » (the 4 strings of the
